Nevada Occupational Therapy Definitions 

The Nevada occupational therapy legal and regulatory definitions. 

“Board” - The Nevada Board of Occupational Therapy.

“Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant” - A person who is certified as an occupational therapy assistant by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc., or its successor organization.

“Continuing Education” - Structured educational experiences which are intended to provide advanced knowledge in a particular area and which:

    • Relate to roles and responsibilities in occupational therapy;
    • Serve to protect the public by enhancing the knowledge, performance skills, interpersonal abilities, critical reasoning skills or ethical reasoning skills that are necessary to perform professional responsibilities that an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant develops and maintains.

“Hour of Continuing Education” - Sixty (60) minutes of continuing education, not including time for meals or breaks.

“Inactive License” - A standard license that is no longer in active status.

“Occupational Therapist” - A person who is licensed pursuant to this chapter to practice occupational therapy.

“Occupational Therapy” - The use of evaluations, teachings and interventions to facilitate the activities of daily living of a client in groups or on an individual basis to enable the client to participate in and perform activities of daily living in various settings, including, without limitation, at home, at school, in the workplace and in the community.

“Occupational Therapy Assistant” - A person who is licensed in Nevada to practice occupational therapy under the general supervision of an occupational therapist.

“Primary Supervisor” - A licensed occupational therapist who is responsible for the general supervision of an occupational therapy assistant or provisional licensee during his or her term of employment.

“Program of Intervention” - Activities which are documented in writing and which are determined to be appropriate by an occupational therapist to assess, teach and assist patients by application of occupational therapy methods and modalities.

“Provisional License” - A license as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant issued by the Board pursuant to NAC 640A.065.

“Standard License” - A license as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant issued by the Board pursuant to NAC 640A.041.

“Supervision” - A collaborative process for the responsible, periodic review and inspection of all aspects of any occupational therapy services provided.

“Temporary License” - A license as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant issued by the Board pursuant to NAC 640A.062.

“Treating Occupational Therapist” - A licensed occupational therapist who is responsible for the program of treatment of a patient.
