This course is on the business of hand therapy.  The course will cover topics such as: measuring productivity, key number of patients, cancellation rates, appropriate number of assistants to therapists, compensation, and other issues related to management and profitability.  The course will have 1.8 hours of content through slides and lecture, and the remaining 15 minutes dedicated to Q and A. 

Course Objectives

• Participants will have a better understanding of how to measure productivity in a therapy practice;
• Participants will learn about national averages for procedures/provider work hour, procedures/visit and visits/day;
• Participants will learn about the ideal number of new patients per therapists;
• Participants will learn methods to reducing cancellation rates;
• Participants will know about Medicare enrollment and payer contracting;

Cary B. Edgar, JD. Cary B. Edgar, BGS, JD, is the president of PT Management Support Systems LLC (PTM) which provides physical and hand therapy development, management and consulting services to orthopedic and other physician groups throughout the United States.  Cary is a recognized expert on both the financial and regulatory aspects of therapy practices.  He is a frequent speaker and has published numerous articles on PT/OT strategic planning, benchmarking and financial analysis, incentive compensation plans and utilization trends.  Cary obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and JD from Northwestern University. He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association and American Health Lawyers Association.
